Seven Gateways and Blockages
In the Spinal Flow Technique, the spine is viewed through seven gateways. Each gateway represents a specific region of the spine and nervous system, and is associated with different areas of the body as well as emotional and stress patterns.
These gateways offer a way to understand where the body may be holding stress. The nervous system is the body’s communication network, connecting the brain with every organ, tissue, and function. When this system is overwhelmed over time, the body adapts by creating protective patterns along the spine.
These patterns are known as blockages. A blockage is not something “wrong” with the body. It is the body’s natural response to stress, overwhelm, or unresolved experiences. Physically, this can show up as areas of the spine and surrounding tissues becoming tight, less mobile, or restricted in their natural movement. Instead of moving freely and adapting with ease, these areas begin to hold tension.
When movement in the spine becomes restricted, the communication within the nervous system can become less efficient. This may influence how the body regulates itself, and over time can be experienced as tension, discomfort, recurring patterns in the body, or a sense of disconnection in certain areas.
Each gateway relates to different regions of the body, which is why blockages in specific areas of the spine may be associated with particular physical sensations or emotional patterns. This is not about a single cause, but about how the body stores and responds to stress over time.
